Last day of November

November is ending and the rain keeps pouring. Hee… this morning I had a very difficult time. The safety rover as I predicted did not come. I had to call the MT Park, Military Transport Park, to reconfirm my indent. It was not indented. Gosh, I called my supervising officer, who is my S3, Major ranking, and he got it settled for me. If it is not for him, my SOC test cannot be conducted without a safety rover. The water point was also set up at the wrong place partly because I did not clearly state where it is suppose to be and it was my battery’s first time having the SOC in our own camp. Other than that, everything went on smoothly. Sad thing is, only 9 passes out of 41 participants.

I had being spending my whole day in office doing some documents editing for future uses. I think we need a library to properly document every single file in the computer server. Always, it is very difficult to get the files we wanted and in the end we have to search for it for very long. Hmm… it seems like I am becoming a clerk. Haha… but I love to organize things in a single format throughout the whole board to use.

My sister made sushi for dinner. I cannot remember the last time I ate sushi. Haha… it was long time ago.

Working late again

At last I finished my work today. Tomorrow is my first time conducting a SOC Test which I hope will run as smoothly as possible. Oh no, I just remembered, I have not confirm my safety rover driver from one of the office boy. Gosh… These few days I have been working late, all because of the unnecessary waiting time taken to sort things out before i can leave for home. Yesterday's FO meeting has being postponed to tomorrow night. Why must it be night again? I need to go home!

I am totally exhausted today and my legs are aching all because of the life-run. I think I am getting weaker, or maybe today the warming up was not done properly.

Can't life be more meaningful?

I am getting sick of army life. There are so many unfinished things to do each day when work comes to me. Today, I was in-front of the computer typing out one of the documents because the soft copy is gone after the migration of the offices computer from Windows 95 to Windows XP. It was a torturous job. I had one more set of document to make which I did not manage to complete today. I only completed 4 lines of it just now before I left my office.

Also, just now at 1930, there is a FO briefing by my unit’s chief FO. It is kind of stupid to put it at that time when everyone wanted to go home. I did not attend the briefing and went home partly because I wanted to go back home to make sure everything is all right at home as my parents are both on overseas trip. Sometimes, I really do not know what army wants to do. It is always so irritating to me.

I got a reply email from URA, Urban Redevelopment Authority, about my enquiry on the next online scholarship application. It is from 1 February 2006. I have being thinking of applying from a few sectors such as URA, HDB and DSTA. HDB’s working environment is quite ok I suppose but their creativity seems limited. DSTA works closely with SAF and it is a government sector too. I would like to try DSTA but what bothers me is it is still a place which works closely with SAF. Another one is NParks, National Parks Board. I wonder if they have any scholarships to offer. Maybe I will write a email to enquire.

Can I not go back to camp? Oh well…

Feeling Lazy

I feel lazy. After 3 days rest at home, I am totally in a hibernate state. I just wanted to sleep and watch television, not forgetting food of course.

Yesterday, I went to Rashidah’s house with Lay Lay, Foong, Su Ann and Ashnah for a small Hari Raya home visit. We watch Madagascar and ate pizzas. We chilled out at McDonald’s in Jurong East Entertainment Centre at night. I had being testing out my GPS system on my PDA phone and it works quite all right. The battery of my PDA drains out very fast though. From my home to Jurong West, it could use up to about 15% of my battery capacity. I think I need to buy a Car adapter to charge my phone while on the road.

This afternoon, my sister made pasta, Carbonara spaghetti. I ate quite a lot which I had regretted. After lunch, we set off to my cousin’s house to watch Mr & Mrs Smith. Later on, we set off again with my cousins and her husband’s 2 friends for a high tea buffet at Swissôtel Merchant Court. I could not eat much, my stomach was still quite full. The food was nice especially the raw Salmon, yum yum.

Thinking of going back camp makes me sick. I had never had this feeling whenever I go to school or going to work. I think I have to pack my things. My room is in a great mess!

Technology De-Technology

I don’t know I had made the right decision to buy a GPS receiver for my PDA phone or not. It is useful and quite accurate after I tested it out just now. But is it a waste of money to get one? There is a thing called the street directory, why do I still need to buy a GPS and install a map into my PDA? Hmm… Actually the advantage of having a GPS receiver and Map installed into the PDA is convenient and easy to use. I do not need to flip through the street directory or trying to flip through the pages to the adjoining page. What’s more is the ability to help me navigate through the shortest route to my destination. But a street directory book is still the best as I can see a bigger picture of the place than seeing just a small area from the PDA’s small screen.

Technology always advances and no one will ever be fast enough to catch up. It is so fast that once you buy a product, it is outdated almost instantly.

Sucks… my SD memory card is spoiled just instantly!! Oh my goodness! How can it be? Argh… it cost me almost 100 dollars! What had happened! So stupid, sometimes I really hate electronic stuffs. Argh…

My new camera

My composite battery’s exercise was ended earlier last night. Instead of going back camp this morning, they cut it short to yesterday’s night in account of their satisfactory performance. Their performance is better than we expected even though they come from different batteries. My job there was quite relax but tiring. Duh… I did not do as much fire missions as I did during Bravo battery’s exercise.

Today, my dad went to collect my new camera, Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200. It is an exchange of my DiMAGE A1 for A200. A few months ago, my A1 had some LCD and chip problems. It was sent to service and I had to pay a certain amount for it to repair due to the fact that my warranty was over. Again, the camera had another problem but the warranty had being extended from the last repair.

This time, the spare parts from Japan took too long to be shipped here, since I sent it for service about 2-3 months ago. Therefore, the service centre recommended a 1 to 1 exchange for A200. It is a newer model after A2 was released. A200, a newer model, has of course, pros and cons. It lacks certain functions such as buttons or dials which I had got used to in the A1 model. To me, the more buttons there are, the better it is; functions are easily accessible and used. I don’t like compact cameras because of the lack of these features. A200 lacks a few buttons but is still a good camera to use. I have to get used to it.

In about 1 year or so, I might even consider a more professional camera like Konica Minolta Dynax 7D or Nikon D70s. My passion for photography exploration will never end.

What a day!

Wow… my legs are aching after the 5km life-run this morning. Partly is because I did not do the cool down stretching after the run due to the rain. Normally the whole complex will do the cool down stretching together on the track.

Seems like a very busy day for me today. I am so worried about the standby stores and parade this morning that in the end I found out that it is actually a simple parade and some stores are not required at that time. Silly me.

The whole battery only left my colleague, Wilson, and me to be in-charge. I lucky my time passed very fast due to the fact that I had joined the other battery’s men to watch Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, extended version.

Tomorrow in the early morning, I will be following the ration tonner to the training grounds to join my composite battery for their training. So I won’t going home for a night. But, Friday I had a day off! Yeah! And I can go to Expo for the Sitex 2005, IT fair.

Sorrow Moment

Yesterday night, I went to visit Jason, one of my polytechnic buddies who always come to my house to do our project since our year 2 to year 3. He has a cheerful and active character and he is always the one who makes people laugh at his jokes. But yesterday, it was a sad visit. It was his father’s funeral. We all had never expected it to come so fast. It was only last month that his father had being diagnosed with liver cancer. After hearing him talking about his story after the news, I feel deeply sad for him. Also, I am very scared that it might one day happen to me.

Jason had being strong all the while, taking care of his father and at the same time with his work commitment. It is a huge blow for him yesterday morning when his father left his family at the hospital. I send my condolences to him and his family.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I just got home from my late night movie in Orchard with Lay Lay, Kar Foong, Su Ann and Chee Yong. We caught the 9pm movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, at Lido, Shaw. The word to describe the movie, it was Great! The director had not let me down after the pervious movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is on a 6/10 rating for me. This 4th installment, I would rate it, 8.5/10. The graphic effects were marvelous. Even though I had seen many parts of the movie in short clips before watching the movie, I find that the director had done a very good job in making the movie to portray the funs and heart breaking moments.

Though a lot of the juices from the book did not put into screen, the movie is able to catch my attention and the story goes quite smoothly. I enjoyed myself in the theater as much as I had read the book. I will not mind go watch the movie again, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the DVD!

The movie is about 2 and half hours long, which is longer than the previous 3 installments. I wonder how long the 5th movie will last. 3 hours? As long as it is longer than the 4th installment, I am happy. There are too many events happening in Harry Potter’s 5th year.

It will be around June 2007 when the 5th movie be released. And about 2 years for the last book to be published, Harry Potter’s final year.

Ever Changing, Ever Green

After spending tedious time on my IPPT AI yesterday for tomorrow’s test, it was cancelled today. Reason because there will only be at most 20 participants due to either their tight workload of stores preparation or an injury from yesterday’s training. Therefore, I was told at 5pm just now that they are changing it to interval training. I had to quickly prepare the AI and let my 2IC to endorse. Through this, I think I am more proficient in preparing AIs.

I had not perspire a lot for a very long time. Today preparing the FO stores, I look as though I had just completed my SOC run. My uniform stinks.

Well Wishes

I cannot believe it. I had spent my last 45mins in office until 6.30pm doing all the editing of my IPPT test AI, Admin Instructions. The new computer which is set up yesterday, at last after 10 years, was fast. But they are still using Microsoft Office 97 which I do not understand why.

What have I done this morning, I forgot. Think I have done nothing but sitting in the office reading the newspapers and Reader’s Digest while most of the people were busy settling stores for shipment to New Zealand.

I received a SMS from Jian Yong, who is my BMT mate, also friend of Jenny and Su Ann. He told me that he had a “Brain Tumor”. Oh my… I hope he is all right. Well wishes for him.

Head ache and Headache

Happy Birthday to my blog! It had being 1 year since I started in this blogging activity.

I am having a very bad headache today. Morning was still all right. I ran my usual 5km life-run with my battery and it was not tiring at all. After that, I even continued a 800m run with 3 of my colleagues. I did not feel tired or sick at all. But my headache all started after the morning’s LO, Learning Organization, with my Battalion’s Officers. I think I listened and think too much already.

I hate to do such sessions. They are very dragging and boring. Sometimes, what they are discussing are things which are so complicated that I have to listen to them very carefully to understand. And sometimes, they speak so fast that I have to put my brain’s speed to turbo to catch up with what they are saying. I think that’s the reason of my headache. The whole session I was very quite partly because I am naturally quiet, and also I am trying to analysis the discussed topics.

Well, my whole day was spent in the conference room discussing about the Vision and Goals of our unit. Interestingly, I get to know more and understand the management of the unit. There are also “jokers” in the unit; one of them is my CO. He is a very funny person who talks straight to the point. He is frank and a believer of LO.

My take away from this session is as a newly posted in YSL, Young Second Lieutenant, I had learned more about the unit and hope to contribute more efficiently to the unit and uphold the standards of the unit.

The Never Ending Flu

Yeah, I got back my cradle after 2 weeks at the O2 Service Centre. Finally I can synchronize my phone with my computer.

1 week already and my flu have not gone. Very irritating leh… My weekend seems to have passed meaninglessly. Yesterday, I went out with Chee Yong to Sim Lim Square to buy my new black Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000. Very comfortable and silent

Sneeze… My flu is irritating me again. I am very hungry even though I had my dinner minutes ago, again… Sneeze…

Where was I. Oh yes, we went to Suntec City after that. I wanted to buy RotiBoy but it did not open yesterday. Or did it close it doors in Suntec? I wonder because the kitchen looks empty. Later, we head off to Raffles City Shopping Centre for a walk. It suddenly came to me that I had forgotten something and it was to buy a cup for a gift. I went into Robinsons and a gift shop but could not find a nice cup to buy. Next stop I will go the next time will be Ikea. Later on, I went to Funan with an objective. It is to buy the pouch which I came to be fond with. I bought the pouch for my O2. It is black and the brand name is Golla, mobile bag, code G059. It even had a website http://www.golla.fi

Can’t stand my flu already. Gosh, it is almost 8pm, my The Big Preview: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on HBO is going to start. Off I go.

bla bla bla...

Yesterday, it was my first time teaching. Now I can understand that it is not easy to teach. I had to explain the rationale and the way to call for arty fires. Their previous lesson was 3 months ago and yesterday was their refresher course. Most of them forgot what they had learnt during the previous lessons. To my surprise, I saw my BMT section mate, Suresh. He is now a 3rd Sergeant, Guards Scout. It was so good to see my long time no see friend since 3 months ago when I was a cadet in Artillery, then, he was a Corporal.

Went off to visit Khee Jin, my primary and secondary school friend, at SGH, Singapore General Hospital. He had an operation 1 day ago. Met up with Jenny, Kar Foong, Kok Liang, Ming Hui, Yong Kang, Rashidah, Lay Lay and Chiamei and her boyfriend. We also met Isaac who is there quite some time already. Well, I felt quite sad for Khee Jin’s unfortunate infection he got. Hope that he have a speedy recovery.

Head of Tactics, LTC Yeo, gave a briefing today about our upcoming FO challenge. It is to bring up the standards of the FO and putting FO as an “elite” of the Artillery. FO has being neglected for years. True because when ever I tell my friends that I am a FO, they will always ask, what is FO? People only thing of an Officer is a PC, Platoon Commander, but actually there are a lot more kinds of appointments which seldom people know. Completing the FO challenge, we are getting a jungle hat with an “Eyes of Fire” badge sewed on it. We are allowed to wear the hat around in camp instead of our jockey cap. It conveys to people that we are the FOs.

It has being quite tiring lately. My shin hurts after the 7km run yesterday. Also, my back hurts, again, after the stupid exercise LTC Yeo introduced us after the run. I had being avoiding getting my back injury to come back but yesterday, it is back to square one.

Helplessly helpful

What the… today I had to do stand-in BDO for my 2IC CPT. Why? Because she is so “garang”, meaning everything also want to do, that she goes to my battery’s Pegasus exercise. Partly she is there is also my CO, Commanding Officer, wants her to go and overlook the exercise and to instill confidence in the men’s first exercise with the new gun.

Therefore, I have to clear the armskote for her! Worst, the stand-in COS, Company Orderly Sergeant, who is there because the COS is out to send ration to the people on exercise, do not know anything. The armskote item list is not updated and therefore I could not clear them. And what makes me even frustrated is that someone needs to send his arm at about 11pm. I was like, duh… Meaning I have to go back at 11pm to clear the armskote before I can sleep! Oh well, who ask me to be so helpful. Later will be a long night for me.

Yoke Chye's Pride

I cannot believe I was learning the new Singapore Light Weight Howitzer Pegasus this evening! I should be feeling proud to learn about the gun as it is my Unit’s pride!

The lesson was so-so and we had a hands-on on the gun. It was more tiring than dealing with the bigger guns. This new guns has a few manually operated functions. I think there are a lot more to be improved in these new guns even though there had being changes made in it before it was launched late last month.

Today is also my first day as BDO, Battery Duty Officer. Nothing much to do actually. Compare to doing DOO, Duty Orderly Officer, I think I must be happy today. My duty as a DOO will on the 27th this month. Sunday burnt! I am super tired now and I think I will go and rest more.

Photocopy day

Today, I spent almost my whole day sitting in-front of the photocopy machine, looking at papers flying out onto the tray until I almost got sore eyes. I was at Pasir Lebar Camp doing “some” printings of forms for the upcoming overseas Exercise. Over 10,000 pieces of copies were printed within 4 hours, can you imagine that? Actually I find that it is kind of a waste of paper. At 3.30pm, I then had my lunch. I was staving at that time as I had not even had my breakfast.

I was quite sad this afternoon not because I am doing clerk work, photocopying 10 thousands copies of forms but it was that I do not have the chance to go to New Zealand for the upcoming Exercise. They drew lots, and I was the “lucky” one who is not picked. Why must it be me? Meaning I will be doing duties with 2 others who are not going, Alvin On and Jeremy Ng, in camp while the whole battalion is out.

I hate to catch a very bad flu, especially watery ones. It gets uncontrollable which also cause me to feel weak and hungry all the time. My brain is telling me that I am hungry again even though I had my dinner just a few minutes ago. I think I will go get some preserved strawberries snacks to eat…

--- Went to get the snack ---

Back… Where was I? Oh yes, they are very tasty. I bought it from the shops above the hawker centre in bugis. You know, the shops which sell preserved foods and tidbits and it is always packed with people days before Chinese New Year. Buying preserved items from there is the cheapest you can find. Like sour prunes, I will always get from there with the best value. If you are going after lunch, be sure not to go there with a full stomach, because you can get to test what ever you want before you buy!

Yummy, the strawberries are nice. Going off to look what other things to eat.

Back to Road of Reality

Why must good times end so fast? 9 slacking days, gone in a blink of an eye. I want them to be longer! I have not enjoyed myself to the fullest yet! Another few hours I will be back in camp sleeping in my bunk alone. Gosh, I have not tidy up my room. I guess I have to go pack things up and make them neat.

Yesterday, I made my first Cookies and Cream Cheesecake. Well, it taste a bit too sweet but is nice overall. Jenny, Su Ann and me went to Yong Kang’s place in the afternoon where the 2 girls made their own cakes and I was playing with Kang’s PS2. I brought my cheesecake there for them to taste too. The girls made crusted cakes, which were supposed to be crusted but it is… erm… it tasted not bad with whipped cream. Then they also made chocolate cake. It is… erm… looks like a pan cake. But it taste all right too. Funny... I got a birthday card that day. Jenny passed me my 21st birthday card given by all of them and others for very long. Hmm… The card contains windows of excuses for why they missed my birthday.

Excuse #1 Abducted by aliens. Signed off by don’t know who because I can’t recognize his/her signature. No records of the previous signature in my past years cards. People keep changing their signature!

Excuse #2 Advising the President behind the scenes. Signed off by Su Ann. Wow… she had a top job!

Excuse #3 Discovered daytime TV. WOW! Signed off by no one.

Excuse #4 Did I mention the aliens? Signed off by Abby. Oh, maybe you did mention that, you are always so mischievous… hee…

Excuse #5 Contemplating the sound of one hand clapping. Signed off by Yong Kang, Kar Foong and Jenny. Hmm… I never know it is possible to clap with one hand.

Excuse #6 Thinking about how much I like you. (Really!) Signed off by Ming Hui. Sadly, a male.

Kayan, did not choose a single excuse. Meaning? She is not as lame as others! Haha… joking only. Don’t get angry ar.

Dinner, Kang cooked fried rice, cheesy eggs and luncheon meat for us. Seems like he took great effort and care to make us the dinner because it took him quite long to prepare and cook them, I was so hungry. After dinner is watching TV, talking and computer game. Only Kang and Jenny played Maple Story. So nice meh? Time flies, it was already 11pm. How did that happened? We took our portion of the cake and headed home. Maybe next time we can get together again and bake more cakes.

Holiday Week!

I’m back! Haha… some updates on what I did this whole week.

Last Saturday, it was my cousin’s wedding. I love weddings. And this is my first time to be somehow involve in a bit of activities during the wedding day. In the morning, I opened the groom’s wedding car door for him to go upstairs to pick up her wife who is my cousin, my third time doing that. By right it was my nephew’s job. But he could not do it as he is in his grandmother’s house, his father went overseas, and no one picks him. Hmm… oh well… so I have to do the job again, at the age of 22. A bit weird though.

I was very tired after the long morning which ends at around 2pm. I went home, wanting to take a nap, but the computer had successfully tempted me to use him. At around 4plus, my parents drove my sisters and me to the hotel. My youngest sister was the English MC for the dinner so she has to be there early to test and rehearse. So, left my younger sister, me and Huishan, my cousin’s friend, to prepare the reception table. Well, the whole night we were just asking, “Are you coming for the bride or the groom?” I never know that it was quite fun at the reception table. After I reached home after the dinner, took a warm shower, I dropped dead on the bed. It was a very enjoyable day. I wish my Janice and Murphy happy marriage!

Tuesday, I decided to head to O2 service centre at Parco Bugis Junction to service my cradle. The spare battery charger is not working. Frustrated. Did I mention that I had off for the whole week? Haha…

Wednesday, went to James’s, my poly friend, house for his birthday. He had a buffet. The food was very good, especially the lasagna. I think there are a total of 3 big trays of lasagna served! Yummy!

Thursday, met up with my BMT mates, Jian yong, Zhenyi, Terence, Jinda, Marcus, Chris, Weijian, and “ORDed” SGT Joel. We had our lunch at Pastamania, PS. Then had a drink and talking session at Starbucks. I wonder how we chatted for so long. We left the place at about 6plus in the evening.

This morning, I did not sleep well. The last night I tried to sleep at 10pm but couldn’t. So I watched TV programmes till after midnight then I can sleep. It is all because I realized that I was like cheated on my O2 PDA phone when I bought it at Sim Lim Square. The traveler charger was not the original one when I reconfirmed with Jervis, my Arty cadet course mate. They had given me a fake one! And I was not given a 22pin adapter! The charge they gave me almost gave me a fright when it keeps discharging my battery until it is totally flat. Thereafter, I am unable to charge even though I leave it there for about 15mins. What makes things worst is that my USB cradle is still at the O2 service centre. So I decided to make a storm into the shop today. I kept thinking how I am going to tackle the sales man if he gives me any excuses. Kept thinking and thinking until I can’t sleep, all because of that charger. This morning, I went there early to complain to the sales man. To my surprise, he did not give any excuses. He acknowledged that it was not the original charger. So he took out the original adapter and 22pin to DC jack adapter for an exchange. I must be vigilant on these things already. I went to a power plug in his store and tested out the charger. It works perfectly fine. Thank goodness. I was so scared that my discharged battery was damaged by the imitation charger. Happily, Chee Yong and me continued with out shopping.

We spent our whole morning in Sim Lim Square browsing on computers and accessories. Then, we made our way to a shop which sells baking needs items. I had being looking for white chocolate for my cake for very long and finally I bought it at that shop. White chocolate for baking is very hard to find unless you are in a specialized baking needs shop. Again, happily we continued with our shopping at Suntec. Then, we walked along raffles area, don’t know the exact roads, but it is where most of the museums are. Somehow, we managed to walk to Funan Centre where we again, browsing around at IT stuffs. I saw this nice little pouch, branded Gillgo or something, forgot the name already, just nice for my O2 XdaIIi. So nice! It is priced at $24.90 and I had a second thought about buying it. Who knows maybe I will be back there buying that? Haha…

We had our dinner at the Food Junction at Funan. I can’t believe that we had walked so much for the day! Chee Yong’s feet are getting blisters already. Haha… So bad of me still laugh at him. Hehe… But are we going to call it a day? No! After dinner, we walked all the way from Funan to Hereen, Orchard Road. I feel like I am doing road marches. But it is actually quite relaxing walking in the cooling night and chatting along the way. Our night then ends at Orchard MRT station after 2 hours of window shopping. What a tiring day.

Life’s Regret

Sometimes, we tend to overlook a lot of things which are around us; things which are important and significant to us. Also, people who loves us but we just could not feel it. Many people keep their problems to themselves. Some kept quiet, some do not dare to make the first move, some do not know how to go about, some are in doubt, and some fear things might go wrong.

The worst mistake one can make or fear most is, regret; regretting for not doing this, regretting for doing that. Why do we have such a problem? It is time to be decisive and make the right decision. Be firm in what we want without regrets.

In my life, too, have a lot of regrets. Life still has to go on. The world still has to spin. The greatest regret in my life is regretting for every mistakes I made. How many mistakes will I make before my regret gets out of my hand and burst like a balloon? Time to rectify! But how?

Things I want, but I dare not to approach, or it might fall out of my hands or leave me with more regrets. Things aren’t perfect after all. To me, it all goes back to nature to decide our future destiny. Take a step at a time. Sometimes I do the lazy way, wait for things to come to me or happen then I will react. It’s just like, “action, reaction”. Not all outcomes are good though. Unpleasant ones always leave us in low morale. What for?

Make full use of what is present now. Never be too late to act. Never be too early to start. There are always opportunities for us. Be strong, no great wind can make you fall.
