Booking in

Today is book in day. My daddy has a medical appointment and therefore I have taken my own public transport. I am very reluctant to get myself out of my house. Further more, I am not feeling very well again. My neck is aching and my lungs aren’t taking in enough oxygen. I think i have a phobia of OCS.

The only thing I wish for now is a good undisturbed rest for 1 whole day.

The next book out would be on Chinese New Year's eve. Haiz... they should let us book out on the day before the eve as we can prepare for the reunion dinner. I do not know what time I will be booking out this eve but I hope they will not ask us to stay back too late just because our area is not clean. It is very disturbing to me when they try to find means and ways just to get us to do a perfect clean area for them.

Till then, I got to go off to prepare my book in stuffs. Wish me well...

Mental cruelty

Back, from book out, from OCS, now at home, updating my blog.

It is a eye opening view of OCS today. It is the day when the rest of the Wing's cadets came back from field camp. So do all the rest of the instructors. All instructors in OCS are officers. All of them, do not have the kind hearted look. When I know they are back, I was thinking, "Oh no, Dooms Day".

Why haven't I get myself OOC? Every one including my family encouraged me to stay on and complete the course. I am the chosen few who are able to enter OCS, why should I get myself OOC? Because OCS life is not for me. It is really hell. Of course, it got to depend on which Wing one goes to. Charlie Wing is one of the famous ABC (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie) in OCS.

In the morning, we attended a life saving course and had a test. After we pass, we are able to get a life saving certificate which is valid for 3 years. It feels so weird to do CPR on a dummy. But I think it would even be embarrass to do it on a real man. In shows, the person who is giving the CPR, he would have to give 2 blows of air to the mouth of the person. Notice some didn’t even touch the casualty. The actual way is to close the nostril, and mouth to mouth, leaving no gap, and blow at a certain amount of pressure into his airway and to lungs. Oh my god... I had been like, "kissed" the dummy for so many times just to get the amount pressure right.

Lunch was nothing special but we had Muslim food as lunch is mostly indented for us, SISPEC cross over. Later on, we did some 'sai kang', unloading the stores from the tonner. There are so many things to move. We also had to reshuffle our rooms again. I was initially in the first room near the toilet. Now, I moved to the last room at the end of the corridor. And I am still with the same buddy. I think it is better la... at least we know each other for a week already. By the way, his name is Jeffrey Tan. He is also Lay Lay's poly classmates, and also Shaun Tan's JC first few months classmates. What a small small world.

Booking out is not a easy thing in OCS. In SISPEC, booking out is always a happy one. But in OCS, Charlie Wing, is always about pumping, change of parade or anything the officers can think of. It is never a smooth one. Because of small minor mistakes, we have to do touch up and time is wasted. Book out time is also delayed later and later. I do not know how I am going to survive in such environment. Just now, I almost fainted while standing so long outside my room waiting for the officer to check. In the end, I could not take it and decided to squad and later sat on the floor with permission.

I feel like I am treated like an animal, a dog. I did not feel any kindness out of the officers. I feel low in morale, low in motivation, low in self-esteem, low in courage and low in everything. I am just far too tired. The only officer in the Wing whom is nice will be the TCO.

Lost

So, surprised to see a new entry at this time of the day right? Well, I am currently on Att C. Att C means I had being sent back home to rest. I had a serious fever yesterday. Actually my fever started on Tuesday. But I did not report sick. It came and went since that day. I thought it would get better but it became worst. Yesterday, I felt giddy and decided to report sick. It's the first time I got an Att C. I do not know what will happen after I go back to camp tonight as I had missed quite alot of practical lessons. Maybe I might need to stay back tomorrow for my Sar 21 lesson. Still feel giddy now... sian...

Oh yah. I forgot to update you all about something. I had crossed over to OCS on Tuesday. Yes, it’s the day my fever started. I do not know whether it is a good thing or not, but I hope everything goes smoothly for me. If not it's Out Of Course (OOC) for me. The physical requirement in OCS is so much higher. Sometimes, I just wanted to drop out of OCS. I just want to lead a simple and normal life. See how first la... getting really sick of army.

The Meaning of Life

The meaning of life is not to hate or to be hated.

Gaining new experiences is part of everyday life.

Years go on and on with new things awaiting us.

One must learn to forgive and forget.

Forgiving is not easy and neither is forgetting.

One must learn to give and take.

Perfection is a goal but with perfection comes pain.

Pain in life brings strength and hope brings happiness.

Hatred is not something we should bring to our graves and one can find no relief in digging it out.

Everyone has their own feelings.

This is neither a bad or good thing.

How we express is subjected to each individual.

Life is not perfect.

We cannot expect everything in our life to be smooth and expect to be able to have anything we want or need.

It is not possible to give what we possess though we are able to share our hands and knowledge.

Not everything is this world is either not nice to be taken or is it bad to be consumed.

In situations, we should not complain but take whatever we need.

Younger generations, children and babies in particular, have very simple and naive minds. Most do not fuss over what they are given. Their minds are pure. Sometimes, I just wished I could be a baby forever.

Over time, our problems get increasingly huge and many.

Stress builds up in our life.

Many thousands of years ago, man was simple.

Primitive technology, no system of money, no government, no drugs.

As time passed, man became more innovative and evolved to a form of higher level “creature” to roam the earth.

Desires increased.

The mind of man transformed into a complex cell.

Medical technology advanced with the founding of herbs which could improve the lives of man.

Soon, man’s ambition grew.

A leader is appointed, rising over the rest.

Governments emerged.

Rules were established.

People are forced to work to earn a living, sometimes even for nothing in return.

In this modern society, there are temptations, higher than what is in the past.

Man’s mind starts to corrupt.

Man starts to want more and more than they need.

It becomes a want.

Friends are hard to make but easy to lose.

Enemies are easy to make but hard to lose.

Before we hate someone, reflect upon ourselves.

Before we blame someone, reflect upon ourselves.

Before we criticize someone, reflect upon ourselves.

Most do not do that.

Most do not agree.

Most do not admit their wrong.

But there still are exceptions.

One stands their say, one stands their rights.

Things are different if one was asks to step down.

One argues for their say of rights and rights of say.

But look beyond yourself.

To be selfless is difficult but try.

That does not mean to be always selfless but never always be self-centered.

Bring happiness to others and also to yourself.

Give light to others and others will give light to you.

Never hope for a return of favor for every favor you give.

Be thankful for what is given and be grateful for what is done.

Put yourself in one’s shoes and appreciate what was made.

The process of bitterness in our life is to be treasured.

Be thankful for every problem you face and be grateful for every problem you solved. Never forget those who give you problems and never forget those who solve your problems.

Never hate those who bring downs to your life for those who did that bring strength to you.

They are your friends.

Free at last!

haa.. at last I am now in mainland Singapore!

I feel so good now after around 11 days in camp! There are so many things happened during those days. I almost got extras twice. That was a close call. First, I dropped my M203 magazine on the floor while I was checking clear my weapon. Luckily it was dropped just outside my harboring area. I quickly ran back and retrieve it back. Second, I dropped the ear piece of a signal set. I only notice it while I was trying to put it on when I just got out of my harboring area. I tried to trace back my way back quickly and managed to find it. Guess what, I dropped it at my sleeping area! It must have dropped when I was putting on my SBO, the ear piece came off. It was a lesson for me from those 2 incidents onwards to always check my equipment before moving off.

After the field exercise, there are lectures and lectures again. Yesterday, we had our Happy Hours cum farewell to my Coy’s OC. The next term of the BSLC, we will be having a new OC. We were wondering whether our lives be ever the same as before. From what we noticed about him, he doesn’t seem to smile much. Even the funny skids we did, he is expressionless. We also had a buffet dinner, nothing special about that. They catered Brani rice (don't know correct spelling or not), fried bee hoon, and fried chicken wings, prawns, vegetables, otahs, and desserts. But, my 3 friends and I were the last 4 in the queue. As what everyone will expect, there will be nothing much left. Yes! Nothing was left except for the rice, bee hoon, a few small prawns, 2 otahs, and flour crumbs from the fried chicken wings. What a pathetic meal we 4 had. I turned my head towards where our OC and the new OC’s table, they finished their dinner and were not there, but, there are 4 chicken wings on a plate! What?! How can they waste them? And also, those people in front of the queue, why can’t they be more considerate abit to take only 1 chicken wing each first before going for a second round after everyone had their share?

Oh well… anyway today is book out day. Who cares who eat more or who eat lesser? I can have what ever I like after I book out. I am going to enjoy myself as much as possible during these few days. Yeah!! Book out lo!! Haha…

Last book-out until Hari Raya Haji eve

This weekend is my last book-out until the eve of Hari Raya Haji. I am going to have a 4 days 3 nights field camp for the following weekend. It is going to be a very long week for next week. No returning to home for 11 days. But after the long week, I am going to enjoy a long break till the 25th, Tuesday! That would mean 5 days off! haha... and also, it will also means 4 more weeks to passing out from BSLC! That will be the moment I am waiting for. After BLSC, I am praying to be posted out to mainland units and not to continue in ASLC.

This morning I woke up at around 8am. Have my breakfast and used the computer. After lunch, I went for my haircut just 1 block away from my block. This is my first time going there to cut my hair. Last time, I used to cut my hair, before I was enlisted into NS, in a Barber at Redhill. About 1 or 2 years ago, they closed as the block became a En-block. But one of the uncles still continue to serve loyal customers. He cuts hair outside his new home corridor at Tiong Bahru. Cutting hair in BMT cost $2, in SISPEC cost $4. Today, I spent $8 for a cut. I wanted to do my haircut at Tiong Bahru but my parents are not going there this morning, so instead I do it at a barber.

Last week when i booked into camp, I was in a very reluctant mood. My moral was low and is still the same today. I still have to book in today. It was a short weekend. I went out with Kok Liang on Saturday to Carrefour Suntec at 3.30pm to get some stuff. I bought a bag and a set of Knee and Elbow guard and also help my other 2 bunk mates to get one too. Also, I bought a Chinese movie VCD at $5.90. We shopped until about 7pm and headed back Redhill to have our dinner. Soon, I walked my way to Jalan Rumah Tinggi where my cousin new house is. Kok Liang walks me to Blk 28 and headed back home. I, then, make my way to my cousin's place to meet my parents and sister who were at her house. As my dad is not feeling well and was tired, I drove my parents and sister home.

It had being quite a tiring day as I had not have enough time to rest. I am still quite sleepy now. I think it is due to the weather, a perfect weather to sleep.

Forgot to say, I passed my SOC with a timing of 9.35mins! I am so happy about it as I do not have to do SOC again while I am in BSLC. And also, I am quite surprised that I did 11 almost 12 chin-ups on Friday chin up regime. Maybe I am too happy about my SOC timing that my mind and body became high in moral and strength.

Anyway, few more hours to go, and I hope for a better week ahead. I will miss my room...

Rainy day

Today has been a wet day. I wonder what the weather will be like for tomorrow. Today, again, is book-in day. It's a day which I dreaded for to come. I week had gone just like a blink of my eyes. 3 weeks had past since my first day in SISPEC and I still wanted to say, I don't like SISPEC. Actually, I should say, I don't like being in the army.

The past 5 days in SISPEC, we had our Gypsy 2 and Wanderer. The day we had our Gypsy, it drizzled and the day we had our Wanderer, it rained. I am so glad that this navigation "thing" is finished.

The worst thing I hate most will be SOC. It is the most tiring training in the army. Then followed by IPPT. My worst fear is that I might fail. But I cannot. It cannot be failed. If I fail in that, I will fail BLSC. It would be a nightmare.

Well, life still has to go on and I just can't wait to get out of being a trainee in army. I hate to be ordered to do this and that. I wanted more respect from people. There is no freedom in the army. Always, I am looking forward to my ORD date which is still so far away from my reach.

New Year's Eve was quite enjoyable. I went out with a couple of Secondary school friends, Jenny, Yong Kang, Chee Yong, Rashidah and also Su Ann who is not my Secondary school friend but got to know her through Kar Foong years ago. We went Bugis Junction and had our dinner at Billy Bombers. Then later we went to K-Box in Chinatown. I don't sing so I am just sitting there listening to them sing. But as I sat, I fell asleep... haa... Because I only had 2 an half hours of sleep the previous night due to the Wanderer day.

After singing, the rest of them headed to Clark Quay to meet Lay Lay for countdown while I went home to take a good rest. There is nothing special about this year's countdown as fireworks had being cancelled due to the recent Tsunami incident.

Yesterday, Yong Kang came to my house and he played games on my computer. While I watch a VCD, Xiao Bai Long, borrowed from Kang and read newspapers of the whole week's which I missed when I am in camp.

Why must National Service be compulsory in Singapore? I wanted to be free, wanted my life to be more meaningful, wanted to see the world. And now, I am tied down by SAF, to protect the lives of every Singaporeans and my homeland. That's why I am in army.

Got to go and get ready my book-in stuffs. Until then...
