My last Birthday in Tasmania

3 years. 3 years have past. Time flies. Today is my last time celebrating my birthday in Tasmania.

Thank you Nic for the surprise and cake. Hiding at my work station without me noticing when I walked in and out of my room. Thank you Cheng Ngai for preparing the sumptuous dinner. Everything were delicious and mouth watering, dinner and cake. Thank you Linda for getting me out of the house to buy grocery so that Nic can enter the room to hide. Even-though I might have already anticipated someone will be at the house when I got home from the grocery shopping, I did not expect it to be Nic. Thank you for all who have prepared.

Snow Peas!

After trying 3 times, finally my snow peas are growing well. The first time was dead because I sow it late during winter. The 2nd time was destroyed by strong wind. The 3rd time I made sure no "natural disaster" will hurt my snow peas. They are now bearing peas and I can't wait to harvest and eat them!

Cleaning Minolta 50mm f/1.7

The cleaning the minolta 50mm f/1.7 or f/1.4 can be easily done with a few simple tools. All you need is a squash ball, a small Phillips screw driver, a clean microfiber cloth, and a few oil absorbent paper, or just microfiber cloth. Instead of sending my 50mm for servicing to clean the oily aperture blade, I decided to do it myself. It's the simplest lens to DIY. Follow the steps from this site to remove the lens mount. You can remove the lens mount without removing the rear trim ring; it will come off in 1 set.

To remove the front trim ring, I improvised the crutch tip tool by using a squash ball (it has to be bigger than the front trim ring shown in the picture. It is also cut into half because I used that to raise my notebook). Because it is made of rubber, it gives a good grip to unscrew the ring. Just ensure that the ball doesn't touch the lens surface. You can slice away 1/3 or 1/4 of the ball if it touches the lens. You do not want to rub the rubber ball on the lens surface and damage the coating. Just turn anti-clockwise unscrew. If it is too tight, which it might happen, you need to push and turn with more force.

After removing the front trim ring, you can follow the rest of the steps from the website mentioned earlier.

Unexpected Imprint

The other day when I was making Kuih Lapis, I found something interesting when I remove the steamed kuih from the baking tray.

Does it looks familiar to you?

Memories

While editing my past blog entries due to some format problem between Live Spaces and Blogspot, I read some of the blog entries I made a few years ago. Some are funny, some are sad, and some feels foreign to me. Especially those about my life in SISPEC, I cannot recall those things I did which I wrote about. It is weird because those are the things which I did. I think I am really a person with very short term memory and always forget things I did in the past.

It is a pain because when people talk to me about the things we did in the past, I may recall or may not even recall anything, I cannot follow what they are talking about. I think you know what I mean.

I also have a bad memory in remembering people who I did not meet for a long time. Not just acquaintances, but people who I worked with, even for 2 or 3 years.

How I wish I have a photographic memory. But it is good that I am what I am now. At least I can, once in a while, read through my past blog entries and revisit what I did and miss. It is good that I kept my blog running.

Also, apart from memories, I think I have a huge gap that is missing in this blog between the day I came to Tasmania and today. There are so many things that happened apart from the holidays and school work. I have not been writing about my personal life since then. I do not wish to write any of it and I am leading a very happy and exciting life. School days is coming close to an end in about 3 months time before graduation. Just to let everyone know that I will only be back to Singapore next year end of January. I hope I will be able to find a job in Australia. If not, I will have to go back to the hectic 24hours lifestyle in Singapore.

Migration to Blogspot

Hi all, I have migrated all of my previous blog entries over to blogspot. It is a pity that I cannot migrate the comments.

My new blog address is http://yokechye.blogspot.com

I will no longer be updating on this blog. I hope I have made the right decision after using Live Spaces for almost 5 years. Sentimental to leave here, but hope for the better as I felt that there are quite a bit of limitation to using html and css over here.

See you guys on the other side!

Live to Blogger

OK folks, I have imported all my Windows Live Spaces blog entries into blogger. Thanks to Zhuotong Nan's shared space, I have managed to get all my post imported into here. It is a pity that comments are not exported.

The next thing that I have to do is to work on this blog's html.

Hossan Leong!

Hossan Leong came to Hobart! I “pontang” tute on Thursday just to go Hobart to meet him in person. Actually it is part of the Singapore Buzz organised by Overseas Singaporean, Canberra. Hobart is his first stop. He headed to Brisbane the next day and I think he should be back in Singapore sleeping.

I brought my camera along but I forgot to bring my CF card! So sad. Lucky Jonathan had a camera and helped me took a picture with Hossan.

As usual, the moment he opened his mouth on stage, we started to laugh. He’s jokes are forever humorous. I cannot forget his airplane jokes about British Airways, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, China Airlines, etc. I can’t stop laughing.

Another surprise guest is Dr Lily Neo, one of the Minster of Parliament of Singapore. She is visiting his son, Alvin Neo, who is studying medicine in UTas. Oh my, the house of doctors. Mother’s a doctor, Father’s a Doctor, Sister studying medicine in Singapore, and he is studying medicine here. After talking to him, he isn’t that proud at all, a very humble person. Funny when Jonathan told us that he did not realise that the aunty he kept addressing to is a MP when they met in church.

It was a fun night. Thanks to Jonathan for allowing us to sleep over at his place again. If not I will have to drive back again at midnight.

The next day, we went to the Island Market in Moonah to get some chicken meat for the house. It’s cheaper there and after all it’s along the way home. We also went to catch a movie, Up, at Eastlands. Up is a very touching and funny show and I highly recommend it to anyone.

On the way back to Launceston, I saw cockatoos along the highway again! There are flocks of them! I think in hundreds! Why did I forget to bring my CF card?! Oh well…
