The cleaning the minolta 50mm f/1.7 or f/1.4 can be easily done with a few simple tools. All you need is a squash ball, a small Phillips screw driver, a clean microfiber cloth, and a few oil absorbent paper, or just microfiber cloth. Instead of sending my 50mm for servicing to clean the oily aperture blade, I decided to do it myself. It's the simplest lens to DIY. Follow the steps from this site to remove the lens mount. You can remove the lens mount without removing the rear trim ring; it will come off in 1 set.
To remove the front trim ring, I improvised the crutch tip tool by using a squash ball (it has to be bigger than the front trim ring shown in the picture. It is also cut into half because I used that to raise my notebook). Because it is made of rubber, it gives a good grip to unscrew the ring. Just ensure that the ball doesn't touch the lens surface. You can slice away 1/3 or 1/4 of the ball if it touches the lens. You do not want to rub the rubber ball on the lens surface and damage the coating. Just turn anti-clockwise unscrew. If it is too tight, which it might happen, you need to push and turn with more force.
After removing the front trim ring, you can follow the rest of the steps from the website mentioned earlier.
