Back to Paradise

I had a meaningful, enjoyable, shagginess and learning experience over the past 4 days. I brought home not only my own body but also with hundreds of uncountable mosquitoes bites and heat rashes.

Day 1

First day was planning. I am so lost in what they are doing. Basically, I had not touch on planning for like almost 1 year. I just think if they ask me to go for such exercise, I think I will do very badly. Luckily I am just an Umpire learning from what they are doing.

Day 2

Executing the mission. Too bad I cannot take the chopper which the troops are taking. I got to wait for them at the landing site. But it is a good experience to be so near to a chopper and see the troops jumping out and running away from the chopper. I had nothing to eat the first day. Someone forget to provide me with combat ration! And in the end I only had 1.5l of water to accompany me. I got to ration my 3l of water. Scared not enough water for next day sia. It rained with lightning risk in the afternoon and luckily, there is a training shed just a few meters away and we head for shelter.

Day 3

Went back to the headquarters to receive the next mission. Met my friends there and one of them gave me a slice of banana cake and my combat ration. I told him on day 2 that it felt like going through JCC, Jungle Confidence Course, and was staving. Mission 2 was much easier than 1. We walked a shorter distance.

Day 4

Last mission, we walked even shorter. We were transported to our spot by vehicle. One of the vehicle commanders is my BMT platoon mate, Hock Ann. A lot of my friends were in the Guards now, as our batch is for “Guards disposal”, a lot of us ended either in Guards or supporting Guards. For me, I am the support. My FO went back to join a platoon on defense. That afternoon was freaking sunny, hot and humid. I was on top of the bare knoll sitting there for 2 hours and I felt like fainting. I cannot take it and abundant my FO and his GA and went down to seek shelter. Not I “bang she” them la but is I do not need to stay there as there are nothing much for me to do at the moment. All the other Umpires were also resting below under the trees! I got a cool spot and sat and fell asleep. Well, after about and hour later, the mission is about to start and I can hear firings.

I think that was the most shag day of my army life all thanks to the sun. Guards, they say, Go Up And Rappel Down. So “garang” and they always do things in a different way. So glad they end the whole mission at 1800 and I could go home!

Lim Chu Kang, I will never forget that place which brought me so many uncountable mosquitoes bites. My whole leg is infested with it and they did not spare my face too. I swear that I will kill all mosquitoes that comes near me.
