Moon!

Show you the Moon I took with my 500mm lens! Later then I update on the photos I took at Singapore Biennale 2006, Singapore Botanic Gardens and Paya Labar Air Base during the weekend. Meanwhile, enjoy the Moon!

The original photo taken before cropping. Not bad, I made a very close estimation of the size of the moon correctly last month.

Comparing with the estimation I made last month. Just a rough guide if I am using a 500mm zoom onto the moon. The size compared with a 300mm which is on top.

Infrared Photography

Let you all had a glimpse of Infrared Photography I took today. Quite a piece of crappy work when compared with other better cameras which can take better infrared photos. I think I will try out a few more times infrared before I put it aside.

My Love for the Moon

What is the Official Name of the Moon?
Extracted from, “Do Penguins Have Knees?” Page 19, by David Feldman

”Along with our correspondent, we’ve never known what to call our planet’s satellite. Moon? The moon? moon? the moon? Dorothy?

We know that other planets have moons. Do they all have names? How do astronomers distinguish one moon from another?

Whenever we have a problem with matters astronomical, we beg our friends at two terrific magazines – Astronomy and Sky & Telescope – for help. As usual, they took pity on us. Astronomy’s Robert Burnham, like most senior editors, is picky about word usage:
The proper name of our sole natural satellite is “the Moon” and therefore… it should be capitalized. The 60-odd natural satellites of the other planets, however, are called “moons” (in lower case) because each has been given a proper name, such as Deimos, Amalthea, Hyperion, Miranda, Larissa, or Charon.

Likewise, the proper name for our star is “the Sun” and that for our planet is “Earth” of “the Earth.” It’s OK, however, to use “earth” in lower case whenever you use it as a synonym for “dirt” or “ground.”

Alan MacRobert, of Sky & Telescope, adds that Luna, the Moon’s Latin name, is sometimes used in poetry and science fiction, but has never caught on among scientists or the lay public: “Names are used to distinguish things from each other. Since we have only one moon, there’s nothing it needs to be distinguished from.”

Army Half Marathon

Wah, so long never update my blog already. Here is what I did a few hours ago.

Super shag sia, this is my first time I ran a half marathon. Completed the run in 2 hours 28 minutes. A bit slow but still all right as long as it is within 3 hours. The longest I ran during training is only 16km only loh. My knee is breaking already. Even with a knee guard, it is still not much of a use after about 6-8km.

Running up Benjamin Sheares Bridge is the moment I looked forward to. The sight looking over Esplanade and Fullerton was marvelous.

There are runners from Vietnam, British Army, Myamma and I think there are still a few. They are professional runners and I felt inferior. Lucky I never wear my formation gear to run. I can just run, slow jog or even walk without having people knowing I am from army.

I think I had drank a lot of isotonic drinks along the way. I wonder what was the budget for this AHM. Must be a lot. Got $500K?

Ah, I go sleep liao. Last night only slept 3 hours. Not enough sleep still go run, I think I am mad. But I am still alive.

Spring Cleaning Part IV

Huah… at last! I have finished packing and unpacking, rearranging after days and days, weeks and weeks of laziness, and throwing away things I did not bear to throw for ages. It is not perfectly neat but no choice la, my room so small, how to hide everything.

Take a look at the before and after.

Spring Cleaning Part II

I had started to get my room moving again. Decided to shift my room layout to get a fresh new start. My room is so messy and things are neither here nor there. And the way I layout my room, I could not have everything to my arm’s reach. Now, I shifted my table beside my shelf and radio, now, I can listen to my radio just beside my table, CDs above, book shelf beside me, so comfortable. Now, my table is facing the window, with the wooden blind down, my room had never looked so cozy before.

But my room is still in a mess. My bed is full of my stuffs. I still need a whole day to clean up. I am too embarrassed to show my room’s messiness. Next time when my room is completed then I post the photo. 大风吹. Only Lynn seen my messy room, through my window, under renovation when she came over this afternoon to get from me a CD.

Quite a normal day

Wasn’t doing much today. Early in the morning, went to camp for the usual run. As usual, I am the only Officer from my batch in the unit to appear there. But running is good. Helps me lose weight too.

Then, I was packing all my stuffs in bunk and managed to bring home 99%. Left my fridge, tower, slippers and shower kit.

After lunch, I head to Shaun’s house to reformat his computer. I hate Acer computers and those PC makers which doesn’t give the OS’s OEM. Just give a recovery CD.

Boring, went back home and watch The 10th Kingdom VCD bought by my youngest sister.

I think it is about time for me to continue with my packing of my own room. So many army stuffs to keep! How I wish I can throw them away!
